Took the neighbor and his daughter as well as my daughter and myself out on the Tualatin river today to do some flatwater paddling. Had a good time for a couple hours and got comfortable in the new boat a bit more.

So as we are sitting around letting the kids play in the water my daughter asks if she can paddle my boat around a bit. So I figure it's all good as long as she doesn't go too far and all.

Looks like I now have to get her a boat of her own because she paddled it around like she was on skates. Needless to say I was pretty impressed at how well she did and how much control she had over the boat. Didn't get tippy at all and was able to cut tight turns, reverse and side stroked like she had been doing it for a while.

Guess I better start shopping for a kid size rec boat and see what I can find for her.

But yeah I really can't describe how proud I am of her right now, just wish I had taken my camera out with us and got some shots of it.

Yeah considering this is also a whitewater yak I was really a bit nervous letting an 8 year old with no experience loose on such a tippy craft.
