recommendations for a soldering iron?

Metcal makes the best solering iron i've ever used but yeah it's too expensive. We're getting one at work for rework use.

That coldheat one is okay. The tip broke off the one we bought though.

I wouldn't suggest buying it if you can find another one for under $20.

got one of those too and i hate it, burns through batteries and it's got a big ass split tip that's way too hard to use and it seems all i've been able to do is melt the solder on top of everything, i can't get it to fuse or join or whatever it's called, but anyway, i hate mine and i've only used it twice, probably get a different one soon... great idea, just doesn't work... kinda like those stick on antenna boosters for cell phones... when i worked @ radio shack, we sold them like hell, and people even swore they worked, but i've yet to see any results... anyway...

Yeah. That is what we use at work. Heat up quick and cool down quick. Makes for easy tip replacement...

I just get the ones at radiocac for like 6.99$. I've done guitar pickups, chipped ecu's, a guitar amp..
