computer crew: USB keyboard problem

I bought a Microsoft USB keyboard that's USB and plugged it in. When I started my computer, my PS/2 mouse stopped working. Do they both have to be PS/2 or both USB to work properly?

Why won't my mouse work? I went into device settings and it says it's working properly.

start the comp with only the mouse, then add the usb keybd after windows starts?
