don't ever get there waranty....

i had a ceramic top stove in my condo for 5 years, never had a problem with it...

also if you get ceramic top stove, get any color top but white...

I didn't find anything there in your price range. The maytag for $550 is nice, but probably has a little too much for what you actually need

Is it true that most stoves within a reasonable price range are built the same...the extra cost is just for extra features and not being better built or better heating elements?

For the most part. When I sold appliances, we had the most issues with GE and Frigidaire and their respective brands.
