I am looking at getting a Home Theater in a Box. I really can't afford to spend a whole lot but I would really like to get a decent setup just for watching movies and listening to music. All the technology behind some of this stuff confuses me though. HDMI, Component, etc. I don't really know what all I need or don't need. I don't have an HDTV or anything...but I could use some advice on what setup would be best for someone in my situation. I am really considering getting this one except in the ad it said was 864 watts . Plus it plays Divx movies.:

oh wow, this system is a beast.
With DivX, the encoding function is a constant work in progress. You'd have to make sure the firmware on the DVD player is upgradable. 2003's DivX drivers won't play 2006 encoded movies
Important for HD - which you don't care about
HDMI Outputs No
DVI Outputs No
HDMI and DVI are direct digital outputs from the DVD player. This isn't typically found on most DVD players.

Most of the time you can't swap the sub out in a HTIB. They have special connectors from the receiver to the sub...it's not like just wiring to terminals on an amp.

this one is only 600 watts
my uncle has a poneer system whick looks similar to that one but no dvd player. They claim 1000 watts for his model, but its not as loud as my sony setup with ~700W. the reciever doesnt have alot of surround modes, so you only hear the 5.1 that comes on a dvd.
passive sub too ftl.

This would be my first home theatre setup so I'm not looking for anything spectacular. But I don't want to waste my money either. Unless someone can find a better setup for a similar price, I think I may get this one.
