Default Carb Engine Question: What do you do if it floods?

iv'e got a carb'd volvo penta engine in my boat and lately i've been having dieseling problems that are from either a fast idle, or fast timing or something. anyway, sometimes the dieseling causes a flooding problem and the engine won't fire for about 20 mins until the problem fixes itself... is there an easy way to clear the excess fuel in the carb instead of just waiting?

not certain what "dieseling" means...if you flood a carburated engine you need to purge the engine by giving it full throttle when starting that pushes the fuel out of the engine faster and should start up (at least that's what i did with older carb'd cars i had back in the early 80s)

Either do that or let it sit.....plus the choke could be broken as well

Your fuel float may need adjusting as well.

there's a lock mechanism that doesn't allow you to turn the engine unless it's out of gear, and i can't rev out of gear.

... so i guess the answer for my situation is pretty much just wait for it to recede by itself?

i'll eventually get around to fixing the dieseling problem that's causing the occasional flooding problem, but it's getting warm out, and if i have free time, i want to take the boat out
