What can I do overall to speed up my computers performace?
Like how do I found out what programs are hogging up my connection that I'm not using.
I have a cable modem.
and a sony vaio.
I'v had problems before with just my downloads but now it my overall computer.

if its become slower since you have gotten it, check for spyware with Ad-Aware or Spybot S&D

 

Go into CONTROL PANEL and click system. Tell us the speed and operating software. It should also tell you how much RAM is in there. Just type the numbers you see.
