Write checks to yourself illegal?

I did it when i took money out of one financial institution and transferred it to my new account at commerce.

Yes, it is legal as long as you're not kiting, but with today's almost instantaneous bank fund transfers you can't really kite it any more. In almost all cases banks won't issue a cashier's check unless it's for a large amount and/or the client requests it.

Finally, I believe Steph is trying to write a check to himself from bank A to send funds to bank B, and in which case you cannot do so online because they are not the same bank. That is, unless he's an idiot and really is trying to transfer funds from one account to another within the same bank

I've done that. I use to have two checking accounts and a savings account at the same bank. Chase lets you do it really easilly online though.

Thanks for clarifying things to HAN Jimbo. I needed to move money from Boeing Credit Union to Bank of America. Going to be shopping for tools this summer

Exactly....you transferred it online....you didn't write one check from one account to yourself so you can deposit in another account hehehe
