What bank does everyone use...
WaMu...and they're fantastic IMO.
Much, much better than Citibank.

Well after what you guys said I am going to look into WaMu, RBC (cause they have international branches and ARE a Canadian Bank) and my mattress.
We'll see who wins.
We'll see who wins.
Credit union and ING.
I wouldn't keep too much "under the mattress". I think it's a bad idea.

Why's that? Obviously wouldnt be under there... and I would just keep a small amount loose and leave the large chunk hidden away.

For one, there's the obvious risk of losing it all to theft or disaster (your place could burn down or something). On the more subtle side, your savings would essentially shrink due to inflation. Inflation is what, like 4%/yr now? Assuming such, ING would at least baaaarely beat it out. A regular bank wouldn't do much in that department, but at least they're usually insured and you're money should be in a safer place.
I'm guessing that your bank must have really messed up to make you so against banking?

Yea they did. And it isnt the first time this has happened. It happend to me with another bank that I had been with for like 10 years... since I had a "Smart Start" account when I was 7 or 8. They didnt give a fuck either, so I really lost faith in them all now.
