actually you need to count the teeth on the cogs to find the correct ratio
the cogs are not always in a linear prportion to each other
# front teeth / #rear teeth * wheel size = distance per one revolution of the pedals

I think you're complicating this...
You just want to be able to see this is "xx speed bike", right? So if you have 3 gears up front and 6 in back, then you have an 18 speed bike/.
