When the DC4 was in the body shop, I had two rental cars in a two-week span. The first was a brand-new 2005 Corolla and the other was a 2005 Mitsubishi Outlander XLS AWD.

The Toyota transmission drove me nuts. No matter what I did, the tranny would insist on upshifting at 3800 rpm and combined with the totally numb steering and limp suspension, I absolutely loathed that car.

When I took it back in the hope of upgrading, I was given the Mitsubishi. Th Having the abilty to actually control when the trans selected a gear made all the difference in the world. The Outlander was still underpowered and slow, but having an obedient transmission made the car bearable.

Given my experience with the Corolla, I would shy away from an automatic Sentra. If the Nissan tranny is going to second-guess you like the Toyota transmission, it will definitely bug you.
That's weird....i have a 2002 Nissan Sentra GXE and i've learned to drive it and basically can get it to shift when i want it to. It's all on learning the car and making the car adapt to you....just my two cents...i love the auto sentra over the auto civic.

Yeah, I don't know whether that particular transmission was a dud, but it would upshift at the same rpm regardless of whether you floored the accelerator or not.

And it took an Act of Congress to convince it to downshift for passing. The whole car was so godamned bland and dull and worst of all numb, it felt like I was driving an overstuffed sofa.

It's ironic that a 3400lb, 160hp mini-ute was a better drive than a 2600lb, 140hp commuter car. :run:
