You can get Marathon 1, 2, and Infinity from here for Mac or PC, and run it with modern acceleration, for free
If you play through these games, you will see how heavily Halo borrowed from Marathon (Some surpises to be had though for Halo players... i.e. the plasma pistols will explode if you hold them in Charged state for too long), and get to play a damn good FPS for free.
And Durandal is one of the best antiheros ever

Either of you hear of Marathon: Rubicon?
It was a private effort based on M-Infinity; it is certainly worth your time to find it. A very impressive work with a great plot.

yeeessss!!!!! I loved that game!! When that game came out it was worlds above any other game out there. marathon 2 was the best! damn im gonna have to ebay that now...
yeah Evil was pretty good. there was one other 3rd party pack i played a bunch, but i forget what it was called. multiplayer was ridiculouly fun too. Yeah the plot was freaking sweet. every time I hear read the name tycho thats what it reminds me off.
Halo was slated to come out for the PC before the XBox even exsisted, and I so hyped. and then M$ bought them out and yanked it.
don't forget ONI (never played it but heard it wasn't that good.)
