It isw about Capitalism. It is pretty much the cornerstone of conservative thought on economics (not neo-conservative...they suck). It preaches a complete Laissez-Faire economy and the importance of greed and self-interest in our economy.

It is hard to explain a 1000+ page book in a post. Just read it :P

I think the ideas presented in Ayn Rand's work are bunk and junk. I mean, greed and self-interest will drive a society much further than communal interest, but capitalism without human interest is one of the most destructive forces we humans can muster.

It is a novel.

Like I said, I do not believe everything in the book, but her ideas are extremely interesting.

that would explain it.. but i've come across a couple novels that read like text books. not necessarily technical, but excruciatingly slow, boring, disjointed, going nowhere, etc. that's what i was getting at. maybe i'll pick it up one of these days, when i have time to actually read a book.
