About the original post, I've been drinking a lot of 7&7's lately and it makes me much less of a snobby drunk than when I drink gin & tonics or vodka martinis. Tastes pretty alright too. I probably wouldn't drink the Seagrams straight up, but when I'm trying to get drunk I go for something reasonably potent while at the same time I can down with not too much effort. Sipping drinks, I guess if I was more of a connoisseur of fine booze then I'd worry about it. Kinda why I gave up on the super expensive gin because anything from regular Tanqueray on up I can't tell the difference when mixed with tonic, and why I don't bother with anything pricier than a 7&7 like this one idiot I know who drinks a Maker's Mark & 7 instead of 7&7.

why do you care about being a snobby drunk? I wont drink cheap shit, and it isnt cause I want to impress people with my extensive knowledge of expensive spirits, its because much like the anything else you get what you pay for. I agreet hough with mixed drinks it is pointless to rock out an 8 dollar bombay saphire and tonic instead of just a cheaper gin, but for gods sake I cant stand Seagrams 7 for some reason...its like a hangover/gut rot in a bottle.

I'm not talkin about how I don't want to look snobby because I'm drinking a quality beverage. I mean that for whatever reason if I'm drunk off some gin and/or vodka I'm sometimes sociable but act even more condescending than usual, whereas if I'm drunk off some whiskey I'm much less of a cynical condescending asshole, and I find people tend to prefer that attitude. I also find that 7-10 Tanqueray & tonics gives me a more annoying hangover than the same number of 7&7's. Not to say I don't still like me my gin & tonics and vodka martinis, but lately the 7&7 has been working well for me so I'm stickin with it for the time being.

Around here there are two different options........

#1 drinking to get drunk---- doesnt matter what the hell we drink
#2 drinking socially, just hangin out---- drink something that taste good

Or #3: drinking something that tastes good in order to get drunk.

ahh...I get ya now. I am the complete opposite...if I get heavy into the whiskey its my mean sauce, where as vodka/gin are my happy drunks.

If I am trying to get drunk I will usually down two drinks of the good stuff then switch off. Usually by that point the taste buds are broke in and don't know the difference anymore.
