Default Windows Boot Help

A while ago I tried to install Vista on a new partition on my computer. It failed partway through because my BIOS isn't upto date, and I don't want to mess around with Vista anymore. It would never end up installing anything to the new partition, but ever since when I started my computer up it would go to the dual boot screen, starting out on the Vista partition with 3 seconds to go. I tried to change it in BOOT.INI but is said to change it in the Vista boot program. The only problem is, its not anywhere on my computer. My friend told me to type "fdisk /mbr" into Run, but XP doesn't have fdisk.
How can I correct this problem?

"Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer is newer than the version on the CD. "
Both are XP Pro. It doesn't give me an option to repair just to enter setup. Correct right?
