Default DVD backup gurus come in.

my roomate just bought a copy of Good Will Hunting, and wanted to know if I could make him a backup of it to put into the collection we have in the living room for all the roommates to share so we dont lend out our actual DVDs....DVD shrink isnt allowing it...any suggestions?

No, but it is illegal to bypass/get around copyprotection no matter what the reason.

actually, the second you alter the original format by "ripping", you change the integrity of the original format ... you've gone from a "backup" to an unauthorized "copy".

if you can make a 1:1 backup (identical to the original), then it's all good.
