Default Home Air Condition Question

I got a Maytag air conditioner in my room tthat is pretty sketchy. I received the air conditioner from my brother in law since he now has central air. The AC is only 1 year old. Im having a problem with it now. It seems that from time to time the condensor (makes that humming noise) just cuts off and it feels like it's on High Fan. I have noticed that it mostly does it at nite when it gets colder outside. Do AC's not function properly when there is cold air outside?

It's probably temperature sensitive, if you set it at say 70 degrees, it'll kick off when the indoor temperature is at 70 degrees.

Two things:

1) Check the air filter to make sure it is not clogged

2) If the air outside is too cold (like at night) the coils will freeze. You can try turning the temp a bit warmer or just turning it off for 5 mins.

4 years living in a West Philly frat house with no circulation gets you pretty familiar with these things
