You wanna see people griping about the Sky and Solstice, this is nothing. Miata forums are constantly bashing em, but moreso the base non-turbo models. I have to agree. I've seen the cars in person and they look alright, but they weigh at least 400 lbs more than a current 2006 Miata and only have 8 hp more. The overall driving experience ain't so great. Pretty much the only Miata people who are sold on em are the SCCA C-stock autocrossers because Grassroots Motorsports did an article where a Solstice pulled a faster time than a 2006 Miata with similar C-stock setups.
The Solstice GXP and Sky Redline are huge improvements with their turbo motors and upgraded suspensions, but I'm not sure if there's enough goodness in the underlying platform to make em super great. Sure is one helluva motor, and the potential for a good car is there since the chassis is fundamentally sound but has that layer of magical GM gunk on it that makes the steering and shifter numb and the suspension feedback crappy. I bet the aftermarket comes up with fixes for the GM gunk coating pretty soon.
No and no.
The Vauxhall VX220 and Opel GT were based on the Lotus Elise and made by Lotus for GM. The engine's behind the seats and the car's chassis is an aluminum tub just like the Elise. Weight is <2000 lbs. The Solstice and Sky are built on the GM Kappa platform, have their engine up front, and weigh about 2800-2900 lbs.

If I stuck a racing bucket that was side mount and as close to the floor and as far back as possible, could I fit in an s2000? It worked it my car at 6'7" 220 lbs. :hs:
I'm trying to decide whether I want an NSX or s2k for my next car.

i think you're thinking of the opel speedster, which is the vauxhall, which is not quite like the sky, as i originally thought.
