Chrysler Slams Greedy Oil

Topic: Fuel Economy
"For those of you who think that there is a joint conspiracy between the auto industry and big oil to keep fuel prices high and fuel economy low, that relationship appears to be as solid as Marshall and Kim Mathers'.

Jason Vines, vice president of communications for DaimlerChrysler, wrote a column on the company's website for journalists (and also posted by the Detroit News) that rips Big Oil for price gouging and excessive profits.

Regarding the prices that rise with summer, Vines says "It's a "coincidence" that has nothing to do with chance, but almost everything to do with greed by the big oil companies." He also shreds the companies for taking huge profits, opportunism around Hurricane Katrina, and lack of interest in alternative fuels.

To be honest, the blame is four-fold:
-- the oil industry is gushing in profits and cares only about how much revenue it can suck out,
-- the government sits back and does almost nothing about regulating and fuel economy ---- the auto industry continues to produce cars that get less than 20 mpg
-- consumers continue to buy gas guzzlers and refuse to change their driving habits..."

I'm not surprised they're pissed. Gas prices are killing the Big 3's SUV and truck sales, which is an enormous cash crop for them.

Did the VP of Chrysler really just liken the auto industry and big oil to Eminem and his wife?

Wow. What great leadership.
