Default importing an ITR

im going to japan soon and was wondering if any of you know the costs of importing a car? i was planning on bringing a honda integra type-r, or nissan skyline into the states and want to know what sort of price range im looking at to make it completely legal for the states? smog, speedometer, importing costs? im with the military so yay for free shipping, but i hear its rather expensive to have one conformed to californias laws. thats if you make it for the street, is there a difference if i declare it as a "race only" car?

yes it is... a lot of companies have stopped importing skylines because they have cracked down on the import laws. Your looking at an additional 10k or so to get a skyline over here legally RHD

note on those skylines... only 96+ Skyline GTRs GTS-T etc... are allowed in here... anything below that is not allowed. Apparently Moterex didnt really do proper testing to get the parts they needed to change out on pre 96 models.

U do know there a real RHD Car For Sale in the For Sale section right? Its located in phoenix....

it will cost you about 1k or more to ship it over. then if one hasnt been crashed in the usa for tests, you will have to buy two to crash one, then they can properly reinforce the other one in the bumpers and such. its a biog pain in the ass. i researched this heavily about 4 years ago.

motorex has some killar connects as far as getting skylines over my buddy spent 25k for his r33 and its one sick ass car to bad he is cali and i could show pics of his ride but it would probably be around 5k-12k after you find the car and have it shipped on boat and then loaded onto a truck to be brought to your house you probably wouldnt get the car for at least 6- 8 months

it seems like the easiest way to get the car imported would be to
1. go to japan
2. buy your honda integra
3. dissasemble
4. mail it to yourself in the us
5. reassemble
