You can have your Hummers and H2s all you want but this is the ultimate machine if you ask me.

Not as bad a price as I thought. Looks like a used 73-76 model is running anywhere from $12k up to $17k which isn't bad for a 2.5 ton capacity vehicle that can forge up to 6 feet of water and get to spots most trucks can't.

Flatbed it and load your buggy on the back and once you get to the trail or show just unload put the top back up and camp out of it FTW!!!

You know, I should have taken pics at the time.. but back up in Marin County, there was a Pinsgauer running about...I think it was an ex-military 612K.

I saw it on the SF Craigslist in Fall 04, then again on the street about a year ago.

It's probably viewed as sacrilege to keep one bound to the paved roads, but still, I thought it was a damned cool machine. h:

Yeah I like thema bit more than the Unimogs due to the fact that the Pins will actually go faster than 50mph and are more durable. the portal setup on the mog is the part that kills if it breaks because at that point you are better off just buying a new axle. with these there are options for gear replacement and rebuilding.

Yeah but those are still using the 5 ton Rockwell axles:hsugh: :hsugh:
I mean they work ok but they aren't very durable since the problem is they are built like a transaxle with a boot but huge knuckles. Not a bad design in this case but the weak spot is the boot which tears rather easily allowing the grease to let out and allowing water and dirt to do it's thing which is not a good thing at all

I did see the one built for DARPA though and it was pretty slick...didn't see it run though.
