Not much. Honestly, they were running a demo at Best Buy the other day. I don't know if it was really HDDVD or just a simulation, but the difference was noticeable... but really not worth the extra money. VHS to DVD was a huge leap in quality. But this junk isn't.

Thats kinda what I was figuring...I mean, we have a high quality tv and run component video cables....and I would think it'd be pretty hard to beat the clarity of that by a good amount.

There was a webpage that showed Lord Of The Rings side by side with DVD vs HDDVD. When they were up REALLY close you could see things were clearer. But from standard viewing distance, it wasn't much. I'll look around for the link.

They had something like HD-DVD called Super VHS back in the late 80's early 90's. The picture was supposidly almost as good as a laserdisc player. You needed a VCR that could play Super VHS to play these special VHS tapes and get the benefits. I think a 6 head player was also recommended. The problem was when SVHS first came out the players were expensive and rare. The tapes were even more rare and pretty expensive. I never saw an SVHS tape at a store but there were a handful you could order out of video magazines for around $30-$40. My dad got a military presentation video for helicopters that was in SVHS and we watched it, the picture quality was nicer then a regular VHS but not worth the extra money and rarity of the product. It never caught on and soon dissapeared because the quality was not that superior over a regular VHS and it was so rare. This HD-DVD may catch on a little more but I don't think it will be very popular unless they lower the prices and have a much bigger selection. We have a DVD-A player but the only problem is the lack of selection, I have only seen a few titles at best buy.
