even if it is legit, it's only going to work upto a certian point. Only like the first 5% of people that actually signup would get anything.

Yup. These were popular a few years ago.. some guy got mad when he realized he wasn't going to get his plasma TV or whatever because of the sheer numbers involved before he would get his and sued the main site that existed.

I made some money off them, but lots of people got absolutely KILLED on them because they didn't understand that if you weren't one of the first few on the list, you weren't getting crap.

Lots of the sites accepted paypal, and paypal froze all the accounts of the people running them due to chargebacks from its impatient members.
