I personally build all my PC's. I had a dell that i bought from a friend for crackhead price cus he got it from someone who didnt know the specs...turned out to be a damn near brand new machine. Anyway..that dell is slowly but surely crapping out and i only had it for about 3-4 months.
So my question...if you had to buy a PC that was factory built...what would you buy and why?
Depends on what I was doing with it but I tend to buy my prebuilds from a local shop that has always done great by me.
I have owned:
Dell (suck)
Emachine (better than I though but still not great)
IBM (rockin laptops won't buy any other)
Toshiba (laptop..sucked and destroyed after a year)
Sony (it was free and sucked...don't buy the name)
Compaq (can you really get lower than Dell or is it just perception?)

i've operated many, many dells throughout the years. although i always piece together my desktops, i decided on a dell for my home laptop -- the only one that i've personally owned.
aside from a few things that i don't like -- that comes with the territory of buying pre-built PCs -- i think they are excellent machines, especially for the price.
i think many people just like to jump on the bandwagon and bash them, without any solid reasons.

I've had
eMachine: Horrible IMO. Slow, just not very good, but a cheap price
Toshiba: My laptop. I hate it.
and about 20 computers from my dads old work that are still running 15 years after. They're slow but we haven't had much go wrong. We don't use them regularly though.
Compaq: Decent, wouldn't buy though
Dell: Don't like at all. Frogot why though
Gateway: :barf:

i highly doubt dell would sell like they do, and get repeat customers like they do, if those things were crapping out like walmart specials.
