Default my computer just took a crap.

my computer was on. the power went out for a little bit. i think a circuit tripped. when the power came back, i went to turn on the computer.

computer whirrs, starts up, but nothing on the monitor. i know the computer is loaded up because i can make noises by blindly opening up programs.

the monitor turns on fine. it just doesn't display anything. its probably my video card that is the problem?

i have everything hooked up to a surge protector too.

how to fix?

Does your mobo have onboard video? If it does just switch the monitor over to that and see if that works.

theres nowhere else to plug in the wire. theres on that looks like it fits, but upon closer inspection, both sides were male.

ok, so its not the video card.

i hooked up the monitor to another desktop, and the same thing happened. it's on, but it shows nothing but black.

weird thing is, it's still getting a signal from the computer. whenever its hooked up to a computer thats turned off, i still get the usual test image on the monitor.
