Tivo pays a flat royalty fee to the MPAA and whoever runs the tv side of it all for fair use. Read your contract when you buy it and pay whatever fee it costs and you will note any modification of the box to transfer to computer or make available outside the box is a violation of FCC laws as well as a direct violation of fair use laws (DMCA).

DVR you pay a fee in the purchase of recording media to offset the copying of their programs and again the same fair use falls into play. Read the manual and you will see it on the first two pages of it in plain english...and 47 other languages probably.

The same can be said of mp3 players. It does create jobs AND generate federal revenue from convictions... who the crap really knows though. They can't really stop the manufacturing of these things though because they offer just as much LEGAL functionality as they do illegal. Just one of those things...

I don't actually have a DVR, I was just wondering. So I suppose porting a TV connection through a PC driven DVR PCI card is also illegal?

I know the answer, I'm just being difficult at this point.

But if you didn't quote your sources, you would be committing plaguarism.

The word is plagiarism and no I would not be commiting it if I didn't quote sources. I would be commiting plagiarism if I represented it as my own work.

plagiarism

n 1: a piece of writing that has been copied from someone else and is presented as being your own work 2: the act of plagiarizing; taking someone's words or ideas as if they were your own

It's 2:29am, so shoot me.

That's what I'm saying. Unless you explicitly said "so and such site says" and quoting these people. Most will be led to believe these are all your own ideas.

Yeah ok whatever, because placing items in quotations or using the quote brackets isn't obvious enough

If I quote items I generally link to source or state source anyways.
