how do the two compare? as far as sound and hp goes?

I just explained earlier that you'll lose HP with the bypass valve, thus telling you to get a short ram intake because you'll get the same performance (meaning lower hp numbers than the CAI). Look at it this way, the short ram is called a SHORT ram because it's short. The shorter piping will absorb the hot engine air compared to its longer CAi counterpart because the CAI's piping is longer and the cone filter is positioned lower and away from the engine.

Cliff Note: Heat = bad, Cold = Good

For sound, the cold air intake is louder.

i was in new jersey leaving waterfest (vw / audi show) and of course, it pours every year at waterfest, but anyways, the roads flooded and one of our friends who was a few miles ahead of us had to take his cai off and push his car through knee deep water. kinda sucked

that would suck, im just lookin for somethin little i can do to my car for a few extra horses, not real expensive and seems easy enough....

It'll only add 1-3 horsepower if you're lucky. I have a short ram on my car now and will be going back to the stock air intake soon.

oh..... so if your getting atleast a little hp gain, why take it off?

You can't notice the horsepower gain, if you even gain anything at all. Basically all it is is added noise which has started to get old.
