Default attn: gun crew re: this noob needs help.

ok, so i've never shot a handgun before. hell, i've never even held one. if i want to start, what should i do? just walk into the nearest shooting range? i'm pretty sure i just can't go in and blast away.

heh handguns are fun. But your best to learn about them first then yes go to a gun range. My dad has a .44 and a .45 and the .44 packs a big whallop and the .45 is like shooting a .22

where would i learn about them? are there classes i can sign up for? i live in NJ, no one has a gun

I live in Canada so I dunno, find local gun ranges and gun clubs and talk to them and see if you can swing by during days when people are there and talk to them.

Personally I would go with a friend who knows what they are doing. Ranges here wont allow for a noob to go in along. Youre just asking for trouble. If you dont have a friend that owns a gun, some ranges offer classes.

What he said. I took a class at a local gun range prior to purchasing a firearm. My first purchase ended up being a rifle rather than a handgun for some reason (that I don't recall).

would you know about how expensive these classes are?

yeah, i wouldnt even think of pulling the trigger if i had no clue what the hell i was doing.

Probably ranges from range to range h: Here a basic safety course is about $50, and extra if you use their guns and ammo. Then they cover the very basics of marksmanship.
