I don't think you understand how minor on Mac machines an OS reinstall is. Seriously. Unlike PCs, you can safely reinstall your OS without formatting, and the "Archive & Install" function is like the greatest OS install option ever

No, it doesn't require a reinstall. It's cause symantec's incompetent and is unable to locate where all the files have went. If it was Apple's recommended repair, I'd be worried, but as it stands, it's the Norton AntiVirus monkeys who are saying to do that...
