If you had said 4 years ago that oil would hit $100 a barrel people would laugh at you then drive off in their Hummer calling you a moron.

not much different today except that the growth model has already been set into play over the last 3 years.

this is all done to generate fear among the US population. With this in the back of their minds, a summer price hike of $1.50 to $4 a gallon "isn't bad".

I don't think this will happen in 3 months ... but you can't say never.

"More realistic -- and therefore more chilling -- would be the scenario where Iran declares an oil embargo a la OPEC in 1973, which Browder thinks could cause oil to double to $131 a barrel. Other outcomes include an embargo by Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez ($111 a barrel), civil war in Nigeria ($98 a barrel), unrest and violence in Algeria ($79 a barrel) and major attacks on infrastructure by the insurgency in Iraq ($88 a barrel)."

Doesnt seem that far-fetched to me...However i agree that a the title of the article is misleading.

it's all sensationalism, which is how the media works nowadays. that doesn't mean that it will never happen, but they certainly are embellishing.

the media nowadays is in the business of delivering shocking news, which in turn attracts viewers, which in turn attracts advertisers.

if a law were passed that forced all media outlets to be non-profit, we'd see less of this shit, and more of real news.

i didn't say it can't happen.. i'm saying it's probably unlikely any time soon. even you said that the title is a bit misleading..

and that is sensationalism. worst-case scenarios, what if's, etc. just like the bird flu nonsense. the media picked that story up and ran with it. stories with what if's scenarios. "are we prepared?!" "what are our leaders doing?!" etc.

and now what? there's barely a peep, because the next big story has moved in... sensationalism.
