Yeah headed north from SoCal...no fun during the day, less at night, and less at night in thick ass fog.

Took me like 4 hours to get back to a friends house when he only lived about an hour and half away. That sucked
Yeah it gets real scary especially when you are dof tired from a day on the hill. Got stuck in a blinding snowstorm coming back from boarding in Montana that had us down to 15 mph at 5 pm. Everyone in the car was navigating and white knuckled.

You're kidding me right? Last weekend I drove through an 70 miles of fog where you couldn't see 50 feet in front of you on the highway at night.

1/4 mile is alot of visibility. I cant believe there was an advisory for that?
There have been many times i have barely been able to see more then 10 feet in front of my car.

West coast is spoiled

 Coming back down to LA last month, I was coming over the Livermore pass, eastbound on I-580 just before the connector to I-5.. It was clear on the west side of the pass, but on the eastern (downhill) side, the fog was thick as soup.. In the span of about 1/4 mile, visibility went from 1/2 mile to 100 feet or less. When you're doing 70 mph with people all around you, that dramatic change can present serious problems.

I just worked my way over to the right lane and slowed down; others were just freaking out and panic braking for no good reason. Even with my headlights (low-beam) on, it was some white-knuckle driving at first.

But sure enough, there was that inimitable group of idiots who thought nothing of charging onward at 80+ mph, when anyone with good sense was going 35 max. So yeah, it's not that we're spoiled.. it that many CA drivers do not understand the need to adjust their speed for changing conditions.
