Default Dog crew

Any of the dog owners here have a dog kennel/dog run setup at their place?
I just built the beginings of mine which is a basic 12'x6' rectangle at 6' high. I am going to be adding a few more panels to it and need to get a dog house and a bit of cover set up on it as well. I figure I will be done with it by the end of the month or so.

No. Mine stays inside. Sounds like a nice little setup though.

It's real basic right now so I can't really put him in it until the doghouse gets built. He sleeps inside and is mainly an inside dog at home, but when I leave I don't want to leave him in the house and I don't want to have to take him everywhere with me all the time.

I let my dog out and she stays in my big ass yard all day. I call her, she comes in.

I don't like it when people chain up dogs or put them in out cages for long periods of time. If you train them right, they will never go far, come on comand, and not shit in the house when you gone.

Not really an option in this town because animal control around here are hardasses about things like that.

Don't try to make it sound like I abuse my animal because far from it. In fact having a kennel in this case is the most responsible thing to do, and no I won't be leaving him in it for long periods of time on a regular basis. There are just times when I can't take him on day runs with me because it is work as well as my play. Once I have my buggy up and running he will go with me everywhere I take it, besides I like to go out with friends tooo and leaving him in the house is not an option.

I have a backyard but it is not fenced in and is going to be covered mostly with a workshop by the end of summer so it really wouldn't do much good either way.

Dog runs are far from inhumane and I am giving him as much space as I can realistically give him. I take him for hour long walks twice a day and make sure he gets more than his share of exercise and play time. It's not like I am sticking him in the kennel when I am at home and just using it to get him out of the way, he is sitting right here at my feet right now chewing on his rawhide chew and more than happy

BTW you were born and raised in the city I take it?

Reason I ask is because I was raised with work dogs. They are treated differently even though they are treated very well and they are trained differently than just a house dog is. I just went through this argument over electric collar training and how I was told I was abusing my animal and mistreating him.

I have had him for about 2 weeks now which means I haven't realy had the chance to seriously start working with him a lot due to him still getting situated with me and being comfortable around me. It's a bit longer process breaking an animal of bad habits as well as trying to teach them new ones, but it is happening.
