Default AZ folks...What's the cost of living like out there?

Well, a certain job prospect will most likely land me in Arizona if I get hired. What is the cost of living out there in the desert like? Food, gas, housing? How's the nightlife in Phoenix or Tucson?

What about those Mexican border jumpers? Any regular news about them?

skabone69 or defused would be a good person to ask. My impression is the southwest *sans* cali and some parts of nevada are pretty reasonable.

I lived out there from 97-2000 and the cost of living was pretty good. At that point it was cheaper to buy a house than it was to rent so we ended up buying a place.

Get good insurance because anyone who hits you won't have it and theft rate and auto break ins are kinda high. Watch out for the meth heads, but it's not really that bad unless you live in Glendale, or Apache Junction but even then it is liveable.

AZ is awesome! I took a 22% pay cut to go out there, but the messed up thing is I take home the same amount of money even know I technically make 22% less money before taxes. Housing is pretty cheap, and I'd recommend getting a condo or a house if you can, they are still very reasonable. I'm renting right now, but I'm hoping to buy in a few months. Everything in general is cheaper than the north east. As for night life there is tons of stuff to do and there are beautiful women everywhere. I was out at the devil's martini the other weekend and I could count the ugly chicks on one hand. There are so many beautiful, single, friendly women out here. When I go out to eat, I have yet to see an ugly waitress. If your single, the phoenix area is awesome. I recommend comming out here for a visit to see how you would like it. I've been here since november and I love it so far.

oh yeah, Tempe, and Scottsdale are the places to live. Chandler, and Mesa are also pretty nice. I'm a huge fan of the south east valley.
