It has recieved credit.

Come to think of it how many people have even seen "How Green Was My Valley"? yeah I thought not. Movies that are good rarely get awards of the kind Hoolywood hands out and back then there were no independent awards cermonies.

I could go on and on about this, you dont really make a good point by saying its an awful movie because it did not get top honors in '41.
I'm talking about from a content based aspect. It's just a dull, overly long, verbose movie.

and yet CKreceives top honors? You're kind of contradicting yourself there...but I get your point. I wasn't trying to say HGWMV was a good movie, in fact I've seen it and wasn't terribly impressed with it. I'm just saying if it deserved top of all time honors, you think people back then would have atleast seen it.

I understand what you mean but sometimes the social significance of a movie or a piece of work is not realized until many years down the road. You have to look at the statements a movie makes at the time, and then you have to look at the general publics willingness to look within themselves and the social climate of the times. This will account for why many movies are not given due credit until after their time.
