Come to think of it how many people have even seen "How Green Was My Valley"? yeah I thought not. Movies that are good rarely get awards of the kind Hoolywood hands out and back then there were no independent awards cermonies.

You have to look at the statements a movie makes at the time, and then you have to look at the general publics willingness to look within themselves and the social climate of the times. This will account for why many movies are not given due credit until after their time.
