Is this a decent non-gaming system?

have an sata drive coexist with an ide/ata drive should not be a problem. you may have to change a setting in the bios to set the sata primary and the ide secondary

which is another thing I love about SATA, no need to set master/slave and/or play w/jumpers and stuff

Seagate SATA hdd for the win

btw, you will have to set the SATA as the "master" in the BIOS. the IDE will then become the IDE Primary.

Look at newegg for the Xion cases. They are very well built, and the power supply seems really solid (I taxed evey component at once in my system, and the voltage on the rails seemed really solid). Plus, it's a case + power supply for like 45 after rebate

You forgot a CPU fan/cooler. Zalman and Thermaltake make good ones. that's another $40 at least.

If you have a digicam or something that uses flash memory, might as well get a memory card reader as well to go under the floppy drive. So much easier than finding an external reader and plugging it in (just looks messy and cluttered).

I'd go with an NEC 3540A DVD burner, but other than that... it's cool.
