the spec forces expansion pack is a bit underwhelming, and sadly, performance is worse over regular BF2. in typical EA fashion, this was clearly about making $$, not adding to the game what may have been missing. yes, i know, they are a business, but at least make me feel like my money spent was worth it.
the night maps feel totally unfinished, and the day maps aren't quite up to par with the original set, in my opinion. i do like the new forces - except for the "insurgents". that's just silly.
the new vehicles aren't bad, although that ATV wasn't as fun as i was expecting. the upgraded spec ops gun (scar-l) isn't what i was hoping either. it has more kick and i think i may still be more effective with the G36C. oh well, that just means i have to work harder towards my next unlock.
i am enjoying crap like the zip line and grappling hook, although i haven't used them all that much.
the worse thing though, like i mentioned earlier, is that performance is worse. i believe the problem is that interior spaces aren't handled well. for instance, i think every shadow is being rendered, even ones you can't see. the same goes for players behind walls. even though you can't see them, i believe they are still rendered.
this can probably be easily fixed with a patch to cull out non-visible parts of the map. knowing EA though, i won't hold my breath.
there used to be a day when software wasn't bloated to shit, and developers actually made the effort to optimize. boy do i miss though days.. :happysad:
