Avoid 754 socket CPU.
Look for 939 socket and Venice Athlon64

what makes the Venice core 3200+ better than the non-Venice 3200+? (both Athlon64 of course.)

And yes, I did plan on avoiding the 754, opting for the 939 as you suggested.

Dell SC420 with 1GB of RAM will blow away your old system for $550.

I'm building my next PC and so far I'm at $502.40, just need to get a case.
