my friend works at a shop and does alignments without one of those expensive alignment racks...just a pit and a few simple old school alignment tools. one of the best alignment places in Charlotte.

String method totally didn't work, cause it was touching on all 4 points on each side but I drove the car and it still doesn't feel right although it does go straight. I think the point where it touches on the front or rear bumper has to be flush with a zero toe setting or it won't show anything, on my car that point is behind where the tire sticks out so even if it was toed in on the front or out on the back it would still contact both points on the tire which is probably what happened. I'm surprised I managed to eye it close enough to get the car to go straight though.

I used levels with the laser pointer embedded in them. Works pretty decently.

well these expensive alignment racks allow less skilled technicians to do the same quality or better alignments.

i use to do the string alignment,..it worked out good for me,...but ive read some of your post,...uhhh just take it to a shop

Probably. You have ot make sure the box around your car is parallel PERFECTLY on the sides of your car and perpendicular to the front and backs. Having the same width wheels front and back definitely helps.
