Default Computer/network gurus

say i have a computer on a business network which is logged off. just the ctrl+alt+delete screen asking to log on.... is there a difference between shuting it down with the power button AND logging on and shutting it off thru the start button?

depends on the computer..

most newer computers trigger the shutdown sequence(safe) when the button is held for 2-3 seconds, while some older ones just cut the power(which is bad)

If u hold the button and it just cuts off....that's bad....

If it says windows is shutting down...then that's good

I guess its safe then...but if some Apps are open needng ser intervention, windows will terminate them and you may lose any unsaved work.

the Dell is probably set up like this:

1sec standby
2-3secs shutdown
>4secs cut power.

(if you have the rights,) you can change what the button is set to do in the control panel
