Good luck trying to get a job in that field, that's basically what everyone who goes to school for engineering tries to get into. Jobs are few and far between, and the ones that are open have TONS of applicants. However, if you really don't want to turn wrenches, go for a degree.

What about sales, be a rep for an aftermarket company.

Looking back on it, Calc was really simple. If you say that it's difficult, it's going to be difficult.

It depends what you mean by design. If you want to be the one figuring out the block stroke and bore, charge piping, intake manifold design, chassis flex, suspension points, or control electronics, then you would benefit from an engineering background. If you want to draw out cars, figure out how they look, or how the controls in the interior are going to be, then you're better off going to a product design program (which in some schools is a subset of mechanical engineering).

high school calc is really in comparison to college calc...so what corey said and suck it up and just do the work, in the end getting out of a few college classes will be beneficial

Here's the benefit to AP courses: you know within reason what is going to be tested. Walking into many finals in college I have had very little clue as to what they were going to put on there.
