Default suggestions to hardwiring radar detector

I'd like to hardwire my radar detector. i got a valentine 1 and they have a hardwire thing on their site, but i was wondering if its just a few cords i could get a radio shack instead of paying $20 or something. anyone have any suggestions? i saw a few were they hardwire it and the cord goes to their dome light, is that possible in my 2000 civic?

cut power chord..strip ground and positive...wrap positive stripped wire around "Radio" fuse in fuse box, re-insert fuse...take ground and find a local ground near fuse box...done.

i was never comfortable with the idea of just jamming a wire into a fuse slot. then i saw the previous moron with my car did that with the alarm system

:nervous: I wouldn't ever do that.

I've thought about hardwiring mine a few times but it would be inconvienient if you want to sell the car or are going on a trip and want to take it with you.

i justed used a normal phone cord, and ran it up and behind my headliner, then down behind the pillar and behind the dash to the fuse box...

i then got a switch and wired it up to that. works and looks awesome.

BTW this wa on my escort passport x50
