i seem to have forgotten how to do it

sorry i thought it was self explanatory after that...

Tools > protection > protect sheet (or protect workbook) > then just put in a password and select all the options below that you want

ive tried that and all the options and it doesnt work

sorry, im wrong, that will only prompt them to enter the pw to make changes. actually, i think the easiest way to do what you are trying to do is zip up the file (i suggest winrar) and pw protect the archive

when you save as click tools in the dialog box and then general options

Just so you know this is not safe at all, most people can hack it really quick.
