Default Model Cars

I used to build model cars when I was younger. Nothing special. But I never painted them or anything, I only constructed them (level 1's). Im interested in doing more difficult ones now that require priming and painting - cars,planes,ships...

Anyone have any input? How long have you been doing it for? What do you use? what works best? etc.

edit:

feel free to post pics of models you have completed.

Unfortunately I haven't built a kit in probably 8 years. I have quite a few that I've bought over the past year but haven't had the time to actually work on them.

Tamiya makes the best models out there. But be warned the reson they are the best is because there is a lot of detail in them, detail means lots of parts.....tons of em.

I spray the large pieces (body, chassis, interior) and brush paint the smaller parts (engine, suspension, etc.).

A good set of x-acto knives, different sized paint brushes, sandpaper in different grits, glue, clear parts glue, Microsol for decals....those are what I can think of for tools off the top of my head.

they are probably the most expensive too.. I guess I'm looking for a high detail beater car to practice and get my skills up to par.. I just want it to look nice and I want to get some oohs and aahs when people look at the models..

I guess painting is the big issue

Ooh, I remember one model I had to use glue, but it was a bitch to apply. And it always came out uneven and things didnt dry right...

am I right to assume you paint a few pieces then assemble them?

in what cases are the different glues used?

Unlesss you are going to do an old rod or something, then you can chop, channel, and shave it.
