love my friends s4...fast and blast to drive but always has some electrical problem or something with the body...windshield wipers didn't work on this last friday and the car wouldn't unlock for some strange reason (but 30 min later it did)

love my 944 (150hp engine) but 30k timing belts...$500k clutch kits (oem clutches were rubber center that quickly broke after 40k miles), $120/labor from dealer! - so I do the work myself

my 85 lude lasted 275k miles from high school, through college, into law school - replaced 2 total clutches ($500 dealer installed including parts), 1 alternator, 3 timing belt/water pump services and that was it...nothing broke on this car ever...it's only drawback was it rusted b/c of chicago winters and salty roads

For a while I really wanted a 240 or an FC, pumping out 350whp, ball-bearing turbo, coilovers, LSD, the full nine yards. Then I drove them. Theyre alright. But ultimately not satisfying. They feel like 15 year old cars, and I like having ABS as well.

My friends first goal for his FC was to beat my dad's car, a 530i. They run a mid 15 quarter, 0-60 in 6.8-7seconds, its not tough to do. Even though he beat me from a standing start, from a highway roll we were pretty much even, and he had about 50hp on me and a manual tranny.

Even though some people give me shit for rocking my dads car, Its faster than anything I could afford at this stage of the game, not to mention has a better system, handles better and is alot nicer looking. Im saving up for an E36 325i but Ive got a while to go.

Anyways I'm rambling but I guess what I meant was German cars really are special, modified 15 year old cars are over-rated, and I wish I was a baller.
Without starting a titanic uproar (or writing a novel), I don't think it's at all fair to compare a stock[?] E39 6-cylinder to a stiffly damped, turbo I-4 coupe with a 15 year old, aged and therefore floppy chassis.

These are 2 cars built to entirely different sets of values and budgets.

I think this has more to do with finding a car that suits your tastes, not comparing apples and oranges.

My 2.36Ą.

vs a window regulator for a 1998 328i

bwm one is $80
the integra one is $300+ that is if you're lucky.

lets talk clutch. on bmws they generally last 125K or so if they are tracked or autoxed for most of their life. if not it will last 200K easily and this is on a torquey I-6 not the 4 banger with 120ft/lb of torque.

like with any car, if you take it to the dealer you will get ripped on parts, be it a honda, ford, audi, bmw.
the $300 includes the motor. regulators alone are $60.

Why not just compare the cost of each part integra vs 328? heh.

The fact is, Toyota could buy BMW, MB, WV, or any other car manufacturer for that matter, so Toyota > *

You buy it from that family. And yeah, MS is pretty much > * besides some of these saudi's that drive diamond covered bentleys and nobody knows what they are really worth.
