Default Good beginner Digital SLR

I am looking into buying a nice DSLR. I dont want anything too fancy, but I want something that will give me room to grow in my skills. I am travelling to China this coming summer and I want to be prepared for all the photo opportunities I will encounter. My desire is to take a good many photography classes (or an associates degree) when I am done with my degree in May. Thanks.

i'll agree. I thought i was good @ photography. I am taking a class now, and as fatbooty calls it, my gizmo 35mm slr has given me a lot of troubles @ first. but i have learned a lot from fat booty, a lot about the camera, and a lot about adjusting the camera, and black n white also has been teaching me a lot.

Sounds good. I shoot with my dads older olympus 35mm sometimes. I would like to have a good film camera also, so maybe a film slr is the way to start. Thanks.

If you are planning to take classes then you may as well get a film camera. Photo 101 is guaranteed to be film based.

Not necessarily true, some places offer two sections, one film one digital. That's the way it is here at Washtenaw CC, you have to look at the class schedules.
