Default how do i make an animated gif?

For example, I want to take two normal sized pics (like 2048x1536 resolution or whatever) and make them one image so it looks like the subject of the picture is moving. How would I go about doing this? Its basically like what a lot of you have for your avatars but I want the pictures to be somewhat normal-sized, not tiny little icons. Thanks for any help.

Open the files on Photoshop
Copy one of the images and paste it onto the other
This will create layers...sort of how a cartoon is made
Then transfer the file into ImageReady
Then go to the animation window, and create frames from layers
Then set the time for each frame to apprear
Save-optimized as.
