Default Invalid IP...

My internet on my laptop won't work. It's giving me an error of having an "invalid IP address." I only have this error on my laptop. I am on the same connection on the desktop that I am posting on now, so I know that it's not the internet messing up, it's the computer.

How do I get a new one? Why would I all of the sudden have an "invalid IP"?

I tried that, and it opens the ipconfig window, and the window just sits there with a blinking "_". Am I supposed to type "/renew" in that window? I tried, and it wouldn't do anything.

It's not letting me renew my IP address at all. I keep using the "repair internet connection" feature, and it gives me a
"The following steps of the repair operation failed:
Renewing the IP Address.

Please contact your network administrator or ISP."

What exactly would my ISP be able to do?

Something tells me you're doing it wrong.

type:

ipconfig /release *Con*

hit enter

then type:

ipconfig /renew *Con*

i would say just do

ipconfig /release

then

ipconfig /renew

and leave out the *con*, just in case.

...i'll bet it gives you a socket error

If all that doesnt work id try connecting directly to your cable modem if you're going throug a router. Or plugging into a different port. Could be bad port.

is your laptop setup on a static IP address?
If its set to static it wont let you renew the IP address.
You have to disable static and set it as DHCP.
give that a shot
