noone's forcing you to buy anything, it's just good marketing. that's all. they've convinced millions of people to spend hundreds of dollars on them, and made billions of dollars in the process. so you don't want one, yay for you. they're obviously doing something right. what would you rather them do?

"hey, here's our new ipod. get one, or don't, we don't really care. it's not all that great anyway. and oh man, it sure is overpriced!"

i'm pretty sure ipods have always had free laser engraving available. you ususally have to buy direct from apple, though

i think you're missing the point. what irks many people is the way apple markets their stuff... like it has never been done before, like it's the 2nd coming, etc..

 

I love how mindless people are, think before you post. Are you aware that I-Pod's have been around for a while now, making them FAR from new? Apple came up with a winning design and continues to polish it and add new features.

As far as I'm concerned, Apple hit the nail on the head w/ adding video. Now all they need to do is develop a divx software upgrade and a dock w/ various a/v inputs and outputs.

Then I can load up my I Pod with a shitload of movies (i have about 500 dvds in divx) and watch them on any TV.

How useless is it now?

 

maybe i'm just not seeing it, but how are sillouettes of people dancing to their ipods making them seem like it's the second coming? anyway, if people don't like it, they need to learn to get over it. apple has developed an extremely effective marketing strategy, and it's making them tons and tons of money. that's the point of marketing, isn't it? they're still not forcing anyone to buy anything, and they're not operating under monopolistic or anti-competitive business tactics.

oh, and apple usually only releases new products once every several months (each quarter) at most. this was the exception, since they released the ipod nano only a few weeks ago.

it may be overpriced, but they do have it. i wouldn't hold my breath on divx support. they may have some similar codec planned, but given the history of the ipod and popular audio codec support (ogg, vorbis), i doubt they'll embrace divx any time soon.

 

Seriously like every other day there is some new toy or gimmick coming out on the iPod so they can scam more money out of you because they make you think you can't live without it. Come on people are you really that heavy a "cow consumer" mindset that you fall for this shit?

personally, having the ability to carry around a shitload of movies in near dvd quality on a device the size of an i pod is great.

doesn't this thing have a 1.5 in screen? And don't you use your ipod for listening? I am going to laugh at all the people with the video walking around campus staring at their ipods on it's tiny screens. Honestly it's a lot of hype for a media player (not a music player anymore) that isn't all that it's cracked up to be. But hey this is my opinion and it's the internet so apparently it doesn't matter too much.
