It really is a pain. Lots of people think it will be great because they will not have a boss. In actuallity you trade off one boss for many bosses (ie your customers). Also most small business owners work much harder/longer days than they did having a normal 9-5 job as well as the average income of a small business owner in the US being $40,000 a year.

Keep your head up, hopefully it will get better.

No licensing necessary for my work, only have to register a ficticious name and have MSDS Sheets for my products. Other than that I need permission to work on private property if I work in a parking lot, and that usually require's a certain amount of insurance coverage. I'm in the process of crunching numbers with an insurance agent now.

My plan is to start this business to save up and buy a house, then start buying properties to fix up and sell or just lots of land that will be worth more in the future. I don't plan on detailing forever, just a stepping stone for larger projects.

I base my work on $40/hr, I won't be the cheapest out here...I want customers who can afford to pay, not the one's looking for a bargain.

That's the beauty of owning your own business, you choose your bosses. Don't like one, don't work for them again Plus I don't do anything that would get me yelled at, my work is flawless and if I get a customer who yells at me for my work then I will put them in my do not work for list...I am the detail nazi...NO DETAIL FOR YOU!!!!

It's not so bad. Initial investment tends to be a bit high but after that the benefits of working for self far outweigh working for someone else.

That's why I'm doing it, just starting up is the hardest, especially when you're not in a fixed location. Advertising become's the factor of success or failure...can't succed if no one knows about you. I have to consult an advertising company.
