Default How difficult is it to install...................

an aftermarket keyless entry system in a 96 Civic EX? My gf's brother wants me to install one on his Civic. I can't imagine it would be too difficult to do but I thought I'd look into it before I take it on.

I'll be installing a head unit and replacing his front speakers in a few weeks so I'd like to get it done at the same time. Is there anything he'd need to buy besides the keyless entry kit for installation, ie harness or anything?

It depends what he wants it to control. Trunk, door locks stuff like that are harder. Its pretty easy with newer cars to do that if you get one with detailed instructions. I'd say a weekend + project maybe. My dad and I did this with my sisters car, 86. Actually it was a remote start.

Yea. When i got my alarm installed, i had them add the power locks, so it would be keyless entry. They installed the alarm for free with the purchase of it. My car did not have power locks. It was'nt to much more expensive from what i remember. Around 50 bucks or so a door maybe for the power lock actuators. I also only have two doors(crx). If the car already has power locks, they simply wire the alarm into it with no extra cost for it to be keyless entry.

There are ALOT of wires to deal with. Just double-check what you cut into and you will be fine.

IMO if you have any doubts, leave it to the pros.
